Kuznetsova-Mauresmo Win Doubles Title – Sony Ericsson Open

Svetlana Kuznetsova and Amélie Mauresmo captured the Sony Ericsson Open women’s doubles title with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 victory over third seeds Kveta Peschke and Lisa Raymond on Sunday.

The Russian-French duo upset top seeds Cara Black and Liezel Huber in the second round on their route through to the final, which also included victories over sixth seeds Llagostera Vives-Martinez Sanchez in the quarterfinals and Groenefeld-Schnyder in the semifinals.

The 23-year-old Kuznetsova won her 14th Sony Ericsson WTA Tour doubles title, and her first since the victory in Eastbourne.  It is the second time she has won the Sony Ericsson Open doubles title, having also lifted the trophy in 2005 with Alicia Molik (d. Raymond-Stubbs). She finished runner-up at the Sony Ericsson Open in 2004 (w/ Likhotseva).  She improved to a 14-15 mark in doubles finals.

Mauresmo, 29, clinched just her third Sony Ericsson WTA Tour doubles title – joining the titles she claimed at 2000 Linz (w/Rubin) and 2006 Eastbourne.  She improved to a 3-1 record in doubles finals.
