Fourth-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva, reaching the semifinals for the first time in Indian Wells by dismissing No. 9 seed Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-2 on Wednesday.
The World No. 6 is through to the final four for the third time this season. She opened the year with a Grand Slam-best semifinal run at the Australian Open (lossed to Safina), and won her eight tour title at Pattaya City last month.
Zvonareva will next face eighth seed Victoria Azarenka, who stunned top seed Dinara Safina 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-3 in the evening session.
The 19-year-old Azarenka, who entered the tournament ranked a career-high No. 11, is making her second appearance in Indian Wells. She reached the third round as a qualifier in 2007, losing to Zvonareva.
