Australian Casey Dellacqua world No. 88, will be off the courts until the middle of 2009, due to shoulder surgery this week. Dellacqua experiencing chronic soreness since Wimbledon last summer, and its persistence in Dubai last week prompted the surgery.
The Sony Ericsson WTA 2008 Tour performance put her to become No.1 in Australia.
Dellacqua will miss out on the Optus Australian Fed Cup team’s effort against Switzerland in April, as well as Roland Garros. Her 2009 Wimbledon campaign may be halted as well, as she is not expected to return to the courts until the middle of the year.
