BOTTOM LINE – Current ranking: No. 10
Although Dinara Safina and Vera Zvonareva are also making their debut on the year-end Top 10 list, Agnieszka Radwanska is the newest face among the world’s elite. Not only does she have a lot of quality wins to her credit, she also had very few bad losses in 2008. Half her defeats came at the expense of Top 10 players, and she’s only lost once to a player outside the Top 30 this year. The plucky Pole, only 19 years old, beats the players she’s supposed to beat, and as a result has risen 19 ranking spots this year.
Radwanska’s Slam-winning potential is difficult to assess because she lacks the power game typical among the world’s best. But her style has proven deceptively effective, and there’s no reason she can’t climb higher next year.
To-Do List: Start beating the players you’re not supposed to beat
