Wednesday Result – Day 2 Sony Ericsson Championships – Winner Williams Sisters and Zvonareva

Highlights of the second day. Did Vera and Venus continue their winnings on Day 2 of the Sony Ericsson Championships – Doha 2008? Who won the battle between Dinara and Serena? Find out now?

Vera Zvonareva outlasted 2008 Roland Garros champion Ana Ivanovic on Wednesday after three grueling sets of tennis. Ivanovic lost her second match at the Sony Ericsson Championships 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-4.

It seem Ivanovic had her probems too. She appeared to feel unwell on court, just as she had the previous day against Jelena Jankovic. Then she had taken a five-minute time out; now it was a three-minute pause, at 1-4 down in the first set, during which she had her blood pressure measured.

When she came back from 2-5 down in the final set, breaking back to 4-5 with the help of a sensational forehand return winner on match point at 3-5, it seemed she might escape.

Ivanovic saved another match point at 15-40 on her own serve at 4-5, but when required to do that for a third time she found herself lured into a forehand driving error by the imperative to attack first against an admirably aggressive opponent.

Zvonareva is well placed to advance to the elimination semifinals with one White Group match to go, against top seed Jelena Jankovi

Elena Dementieva, the gold medal winner at the Beijing Olympics, recovered to take the second set before ultimately losing to Venus Williams 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

The only former season-ending Championships winner in the draw, Serena Williams, won her opening rubber 6-4, 6-1 against Dinara Safina in the last match of the day.
